Hello Gearhart Friends!

I couldn't be more excited to help host a very special town hall meeting on Tuesday January 29th at 7:00PM at the Gearhart Fire Station! The purpose of this town hall will be to update information on the public need for a new Emergency Response and Resiliency Building and to begin an unprecedented and intensive 3-month public feedback and listening period where the community will help choose the location for a new station and home for our beloved Gearhart Volunteer Fire Department.

For those that aren't able to attend, we will have all of the information available on-line and in a paper packet or linked on my page. After the meeting and over the next 3 months each resident of Gearhart will have a chance to fill out a detailed questionnaire either on-line or in paper form where they can rank the 3 locations and provide other important feedback. After the feedback period the committee and city staff will tabulate the rankings and other pertinent information into a report for the City Council and available to the public. The Council will then have a choice to vote on putting a new station on an upcoming election ballot for a public vote.

Our amazing citizen committee has been doing extensive research for over 3 years on 9 possible locations, and with the help of local experts and city staff is finalizing the concepts to present at the town hall. I believe you are going to love this new process and can’t wait to hear your feedback on the new never before seen concept designs and information sheets. Each concept will provide detailed data so that each community member can make an informed decision on ranking the different locations. I have always believed this should be a community choice and that is why we want everyone to be part of the decision-making process. It’s all about making a choice to be RESILIENT TOGETHER and I can’t wait to get started!

All the best,
Mayor Matty
